Wuppy’s Minecraft Forge Modding Tutorials for 1.7: IRC #minecraftforge tutorial

In this tutorial I will show you how to setup IRC in such a way so you can get into #minecraftforge. This channel is incredibly useful, because there are always people on there to help. Many well-known people in the Minecraft community hang out there.

To get into #minecraftforge on IRC there are a few things you have to do. First of all you will have to install an IRC client. I suggest using HexChat which you can download right here. Once you have installed HexChat you will have to set up several things. What you have to do is click on the top left HexChat button and then select the Network List. In there set your nicknames and user name.

Next up navigate to the EsperNet network in the Networks scroll window. Once you have found it, you should select it and click Favor. After that click edit and go to the Login method and make sure that one is on NickServ (/NICKSERV + password). In the block under there type a password you are going to use a bit later. Also select the Connect to this network automatically checkbox at the top.

Now open up the EsperNet channel which should show you quite a lot of lines in the big window. Then select the talk bar at the bottom and type /msg NickServ register <password> <email>. This will get you an email with a code you have to send back to NickServ. Once you have done this your account will be registered. Now go to the Server tab at the top and Select join Channel. In there you should write minecraftforge. This will add you to the #minecraftforge channel. Be sure to say hello to everybody. A few small changes you might want to make are to auto enter and to hide the join/leave messages. To do this right click on the channel and select those 2 options.

Another few channels you might want to join are: #iChun, #mcp, #mcp-modding, #ModJam, #MinecraftForgeTuts and #TinkersConstruct. However, there are many more channels on there.
