Wuppy’s Minecraft Forge Modding Tutorials for 1.7: Updating Forge

In this tutorial I will show you how to update Forge between different versions. There is no difference in updating between the basic and advanced setup.

What you have to do is open the build.gradle file, which can be found at the top forge folder, with some text editor and find the line with minecraft on it. It should look something like this.

It should be somewhere near the bottom of the file.

Updating forge is incredibly easy. The version of forge you are using is shown in the code above. If you want to change it simply change the number according to the version seen on the download page. The version is Mc version – forge version. As you can see in the code above, at the moment of writing this tutorial I was using forge build 997 for Minecraft 1.7.2, but it should be different depending on which version of Forge you are using.

To update this simply copy and paste the new version number from the download page and save the build file. Next you should open up a command window in the forge folder and run the following command.

Or

Depending on which development environment you are using.

This will redo the whole Forge setup, but it won’t overwrite any of the code you have made. That does, however, not mean that your code can’t have any errors after updating. If there have been some method name changes in any of the code you are using, which may very well happen in a Forge update, you will have to change them a little.
